Step-by-Step and What to Expect
The goal of Atlantic Health Sleep Centers is to make you the patient as comfortable as possible. We accomplish this by creating a home like setting that resembles a four star hotel with amenities that include a flat screen TV, in suite private bathroom, Lazy Boy Chairs, snacks and breakfast. If you are unable to keep your appointment or if you have an upper respiratory infection causing significant nasal congestion, contact the Sleep Disorders Center at 1-866-906-5666 at least 48 hours before your appointment to reschedule.
What to Expect During Your Sleep Study
Some sleep disorders, such as sleep apnea, require overnight observation at our center. During an overnight sleep study (polysomnogram), electrodes are placed to record brain activity, eye movements, and muscle activity. Additional sensors are placed around the nose, chest, and abdomen to record breathing patterns. On the night of the study, you will be asked to come by our sleep center between 7:30pm and 9:30pm to prepare for the test. You will be allowed to go to sleep at your usual bedtime in a private sleep room. If no other tests are scheduled, you will be free to leave the center in the morning between 6:00 and 7:00am.
